Scion Wood for Grafting

Organic Sam’s Scion wood is harvested from our organic orchard. Apple and pear grafting scions is 3/16-1/4 in. caliper, 8-12 inches long and well budded. Cherry and plum scions run slightly smaller in caliper. Scion wood is available for all varieties listed in our catalog. If you are looking for a variety not listed please email us. We have numerous very rare and usual varieties not listed by us, and sometimes not listed anywhere at all.

All scion wood should be stored in a refrigerator using the zip lock bag it was shipped in. For best results graft the scion in a fully dormant state to a rootstock that has already begun to break dormancy.

Whip and tongue, bark and cleft style grafts work best when the buds begin to swell on the rootstock. Chip grafts tend to work best if implemented in late spring, as soon as the leaves open fully on the rootstock.

Winter harvested scion wood, such as ours, is not suitable for summer bud grafting.

Cost: $3.50 per stick. Minimum order is 3 sticks. We do not charge shipping on scion wood.

Organic Sam’s does not sell rootstock.
